NHS Bowel Cancer Screening

NHS BOWEL CANCER SCREENING PROGRAMME

The National Bowel Cancer screening programme commenced in Central Lancashire in July.

The aim of the programme is to detect bowel cancer at an early stage, when treatment can be effective.  All patients between the ages of 60 and 69 will be invited to take part in the screening and will be sent a test kit.  The screening will be repeated every two years.

People over the age of 70 will not be contacted automatically but they can request a test kit by telephoning

0800 707 6060

The kit will contain full instructions on how it is to be used and the initial test is completed at home.   If the results of the test are negative both the patient and the practice will be informed.

If any follow up care is required this will be arranged by the screening programme at local centres.
