Are you a CARER?
Carers come from all walks of life, cultures and can be any age. In the UK there are over 6 million carers; over 28,000 live in Preston, Chorley and South Ribble. In the 2001 census there were 175,000 young carers in the UK, the average age being 12 years old.
Many do not consider themselves to be a ‘Carer’, they just see themselves as looking after someone else like their mother, father, son, husband, wife, friend and just getting on with it.
Being a carer can be rewarding, but it can also be very frustrating, isolating, financially difficult and may lead to ill health and depression. Many carers give up an income, future employment prospects and pensions to become a carer, whilst there are those that try to juggle their jobs/family with the responsibility of being a carer.
Many carers struggle alone and are not aware that there is help available to them. There is a wealth of information available which offers advice and details of activities and services.
The practice aims to fully support carers of all ages.
